Winter Appeal Underway – Thank you for your Support!

As another year begins, our staff has been discussing what inspires us at work each and every day. We’d like to share that list with you:

1) Volunteers – Those who give selflessly each day to do everything from preservation, to train operations to cleaning the floors…. these numerous individuals who provide over 12,500 hours of service each year make us want to work even harder!  We are humbled by their generosity of spirit, energy and time.

2) The Look on Kids’ Faces – Children in awe of a working steam engine or creating their own imaginary world playing on our kid sized train in the museum….those little faces filled with joy and excitement make us happy we work here.

3) Preserving the Past – Seeing steam back in service for the first time in two years, and watching the restoration of the historic 1882 Pondicherry unfold over the past year reminds us of the magnificent historic treasures we are preserving for future generations.  For lovers of history, these moments resonate with the lasting effect our efforts will have for years to come.

4)  Sharing our Story – Educating the public from both close to home and around the world about Maine’s two-foot narrow gauge history brings us all a sense of pride.  We have a unique story to tell and one that we are lucky to be able share with our visitors day in and day out.  Having a one-of-a-kind story makes our museum interesting and that’s neat!

5) Family Moments – A grandfather sharing his memories of the Maine two-footers while waiting to take a ride on our historic equipment with his son and granddaughter is exciting stuff.  It makes us proud to be able to link generations together and create a place where “historical” moments are made and shared.

We are inspired by all of these things and grateful for the support of our members and visitors.  Please DONATE NOW to our Winter Appeal!
