The Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Company and Museum is pleased to announce two recent grant awards totaling $3,000. The Dean S. Edmonds Foundation awarded the museum $1,000 dedicated to the museum’s Steam Restoration Fund. The organization is currently restoring Bridgton and Saco River Steam Locomotive #7 built by Baldwin Locomotive Works in 1913. The restoration of the historic locomotive is expected to be complete in early 2016. The museum was also awarded a grant from the National Railway Historical Society in the amount of $2,000. Grant funds will support the restoration of Caboose #557, built in 1913, for the Sandy River and Rangeley Lakes Railroad. The caboose is one of three cabooses with end cupolas manufactured by the Maine Central Railroad Waterville Shops. An additional $2,000 is needed to complete restoration work on the caboose.
