The museum is pleased to announce the return of the 2016 Portland History Docents Program! The program trains docents as volunteers for area museums and is a collaborative effort between Greater Portland Landmarks, Maine Historical Society, Tate House Museum, Victoria Mansion, the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. & Museum, the Fifth Maine Regiment Museum, Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse and Spirits Alive at the Eastern Cemetery.
This year’s program will take place from February 25th-April 28th, 2016. During the course, participants enjoy lectures on area history, art, and architecture along with effective docent techniques. Students visit each of the sites taking part in the program and are asked to commit to one year of volunteering with a participating organization during the coming year.
Classes take place Thursday mornings from 9:00am to Noon, beginning at the Maine Historical Society in Portland on February 25th and concluding on April 28th. The program cost is $30 per person. Students are offered a reduced rate of $20/person with valid student I.D. Advance Reservations are required. If you are interested in participating, please visit the new Portland History Docents website and reserve your spot today!
