Portland History Docents Program Returns

blog7The Portland History Docents Program returns this month! A collaborative effort by a group of local historic sites, the program provides a nine-week training course for prospective volunteer tour guides.

This year’s program will take place from February 22nd through April 26th. It includes several weeks of lively talks and presentations at Maine Historical Society, combined with site visits to each of the partnering organizations, including Greater Portland Landmarks, Maine Historical Society, Tate House Museum, Victoria Mansion, the Maine Narrow Gauge Railroad Co. & Museum, the Fifth Maine Regiment Museum, Spring Point Ledge Lighthouse and Spirits Alive at the Eastern Cemetery.

The Portland History Docents classes run on Thursday mornings from 9am to Noon. The cost to participate is $30 per person ($20 with a valid student ID) which covers the entire program of lectures along with all the site visits.  For more information about the program, and to sign up for this year’s class, visit the Portland History Docents website.
